Sugar Cookie Bars

Sugar Cookie Bars What does one do when they fancy cookies but fancy something a little more indulgent than actual cookies? Then bake a big slab of cookie bars and completely smother it with girly pink, creamy and delicious buttercream frosting, of course! What else would I do when the end result was super thick fluffy sugar cookie bars topped with deliciously creamy frosting? :) Sugar cookies are delicious. But sometimes you just want that sugar cookie taste without all the faff of chilling, rolling, cutting out shapes, baking and repeating. These sugar cookie bars are so quick you'll … [Read more...]

Pumpkin Whoopie Pies

Pumpkin Whoopie Pies Happy belated thanksgiving to my US friends! When it comes to blogging, I'm one of those super unorganised peeps. I see people mention on their blogs that if they don't have 2 weeks worth of posts ready to be scheduled then they freak! I wish I could be a member of that exclusive club and I was trying so hard. I even have 2 stand mixers for double production, I have no excuse! Monday was the day I wished I had banked my posts. I was struck down with either food poisoning (no, not from *my* food), or a stomach bug. I have spent literally all week in bed suffering! And … [Read more...]

Halloween Sugar Cookies

Halloween Sugar Cookies Happy Halloween!!!! It's already almost midnight here and we've only had two ToT'ers. TWO!? Le sigh. :( And I bought 3 largish boxes of candy to share. Perhaps it's the rain that's so heavy that the gutters look like a river going down the street that's the issue? But that doesn't stop me celebrating, no siree! I made you decorated sugar cookies. Now you can tell why my blog has been quiet lately, huh? Because boy, I forgot just how much effort goes into decorating sugar cookies. *insert blushing smilie, heh* And you know what? I baked these bad boys late at night … [Read more...]

Bloody Brains Cupcakes

Bloody Brains Cupcakes What do you love best about Halloween as an adult? For me, it still seems like a mystical time of the year. In England, the end of October is normally cold. If it's not raining, there's normally a frost in the air and you can always see your breath in the air as a little cloud that shines in the street lights. Obviously, it's so much better if there's an awesome full moon with creepy cloud cover too. I love that I can get warm and cosy on the sofa with a giant cup of hot chocolate and a huge warm jumper with the fire on. As a child, there was a children's park on a … [Read more...]

Vanilla Macarons

Vanilla Macarons Or Vanilla Macaroons, if you prefer? I prefer to say macarons since macaroons can be confused with a different dessert. Hello, English Coconut Macaroons anyone? This is my very first time ever making macarons so I thought I'd stick to being safe and go for vanilla macarons and next time get more creative since I hear that macarons are notoriously hard to make (maybe why I've been putting off making them, shh!) I also wanted to do some colours too but I thought I'd stick to making 4 colours as I wasn't sure of how it'd all turn out. I really had fun making these and they … [Read more...]

Monster High Skull Birthday Cake

Monster High Skull Birthday Cake It was my daughters 9th birthday on April 21st. She's really into Monster High and I knew she'd freak if I made her a Monster High 'skull' design birthday cake. So that's what I did! :) In a panic trying to make this Monster High cake as best as it could be I made some mistakes, some so dumb you'll be laughing along with me… I started off making some royal icing run outs for matching Monster High cookies using an acetate sheet. I was trying to use the skull for the Monster High skull logo as a reference and printed off that image to my specified size of 3 … [Read more...]

Spring Blossom Buttercream Sponge Cake

Spring Blossom Buttercream Sponge Cake So… the award for "the worlds worst decorated cake" goes to…. Me! Since I'm going to show everything created on this blog, here's my so-called Spring Blossom cake. Everything went smoothly until decorating time. The buttercream even went relatively well (considering that I've only applied buttercream as an outer frosting to two cakes in my 30 years of existence). Everything went completely pear shaped when I made the blossoms and thereafter. I used a blossom plunger cutter, perfect. My rolled fondant (sugarpaste), not so perfect. It cracked a hella … [Read more...]

St. Patrick’s Day Irish Cream Liqueur (Bailey’s) Shamrock Cupcakes

St. Patrick's Day Shamrock Chocolate Cupcakes w Bailey's Buttercream Frosting Celebrate St. Patrick's day the Irish way with these Shamrock styled chocolate cupcakes decorated with Bailey's flavoured buttercream frosting. Yummy. First of all, sorry about the poor photo quality. Now that my giant man baby aka my partner is home, I can explain that he has been away for a couple of days and took my 'proper' camera and lenses with him and left me the dreaded point and shoot! Gah! The flash is so damn harsh and even though I used tissue paper to diffuse the flash, it still is too bright and … [Read more...]
