Double Chocolate Cookie in a Mug Recipe

Indulge in a Double Chocolate Cookie in a Mug - a rich, chocolatey delight made in minutes. Just mix, microwave, and enjoy gooey goodness!

  • 15g (1 tbsp) unsalted butter, softened
  • 15g (1 tbsp) granulated sugar
  • 15g (1 tbsp) dark brown sugar
  • 1 medium egg yolk
  • ¼ tsp vanilla extract
  • 15g (1½ tbsp) all-purpose flour
  • 15g (1½ tbsp) cocoa powder
  • pinch of salt
  • (optional) pinch of instant coffee powder, see notes
  • 2 tablespoons chocolate chips


  1. Add the butter to a large ramekin, small mug, or a teacup and microwave for 10-20 seconds until melted, but not hot.
  2. With a fork, beat the granulated sugar, brown sugar and egg yolk and beat until combined. Add the vanilla, flour, cocoa powder, salt, and instant coffee (if using) and beat gently until a dough forms, then fold in the chocolate chips, reserving a few for the top - which will go ooey-gooey!
  3. Press the dough down and cook in the microwave for the following times, depending on your microwaves power:
    – 1000W: 50 seconds,
    – 900W: 55 seconds,
    – 800W: 1 minutes,
    – 700W: 1 minute, 5 seconds,
    – 600W: 1 minute, 10 seconds.
  4. Remove from the microwave and allow to stand for 10 minutes before serving. This will allow for the cookie to become deliciously chewy, and will still be warm. Serving suggestions are included in the blog post (above).


By adding a pinch of instant coffee to the double chocolate mug cookie recipe, you'll elevate its flavour to a whole new level. The subtle hint of coffee will enhance the rich chocolate taste, adding depth and complexity to the cookie without adding a coffee flavour.
