With this no cook (no burn) homemade sweetened condensed milk recipe, you’ll never need to buy cans of sweetened condensed milk ever again.
Are you watching the Great British Bake Off?
It starts today! And guess what? I’ve partnered with Le Creuset and OXO for this years Great British Bake Off. I just want to scream, and shout, and let it all out! π More on that later though, but don’t forget to keep your eyes peeled as there’s some fantastic giveaways coming up. *wink wink*
But in the meantime, I’m sharing this ridiculously easy recipe for homemade sweetened condensed milk.
No, your eyes aren’t deceiving you. This recipe doesn’t amount to burnt milk in the bottom of your pan, and literally takes 5 minutes from start to finish. You can’t get much better than that, right?
Did I mention that this recipe also can be substituted for the canned variety? It yields the exact same amount as the cans too, and… you can even use it to make homemade dulce de leche too. More on that one later too. #suchatease
Shall we get started?
You will need:
You can either skip to the printable recipe, or read the photographic tutorial below.
You will need the following ingredients and tools.
Ingredients:
- 115g (1 cup) milk powder,
- 150g (β cup) granulated sugar,
- 42g (3 tbsp) melted butter,
- 125ml (Β½ cup) boiling water.
Tools:
- Blender,
- Rubber spatula.
Start off by putting the milk powder into the blender.
Followed by the granulated sugar.
Next, add the melted butter.
Then finally add the boiling water.
Then blend to combine until smooth.
Depending on your blender, you may need to use a spatula to ensure that all the milk powder gets combined. I have tried this sweetened condensed milk recipe now on 3 separate occasions using 2 different blenders.
On some blender models, the milk powder can get stuck to the sides at the bottom, and the base. If this happens, [turn off and unplug the blender, obvs] then use a rubber spatula to scrape the sides to the bottom unclogging any milk powder. And blend again until there’s no milk powder remnants stuck, and the condensed milk is smooth.
And there you have it. Divine homemade sweetened condensed milk.
All you need to do now is pour your mixture into a jar or container, cover, and allow to cool to room temperature before storing in the refrigerator.
Wasn’t that easy? π
The consistency and taste rivals store-bought cans, oh, and at a fraction of the price. I’ll never buy a can of sweetened condensed milk ever again!
However, please do take note that the homemade sweetened condensed milk will be thick when cold. This is not a problem, just remove from the fridge 30 minutes – 1 hour before use. Also, if you were to store store-bought sweetened condensed milk in the fridge, it would be thick too.
I made this coca-cola (coke) fudge using this homemade sweetened condensed milk recipe. And it was goooood!

Can this be made using Splenda?
Hi Joanne, I haven’t tried with Splenda so can’t really answer you. I know you can use Splenda with some other recipes, so might be worth a shot to see how it turns out.
If you try it with Splenda, please do let me know how it turns out so other readers will know. Thanks for stopping by.
Thanks for sharing your recipes . I live in Turkey & can’t get condensed milk out here so all my friends now want your recipe. However, I made a large batch and would like to know how long it will keep in an airtight jar for in the fridge? Look forward to your reply.
To keep the powdered milk from sticking in the bottom of your blender, add your liquids first and the powdered milk last. It works!
Thanks, Patricia. I learned this little tidbit AFTER I had made this condensed milk LOL. I should go ahead and edit the recipe directions to state this. π
Thanks for stopping by. Have a sweet day.
Love the sound of this recipe! Planning to make fudge for Easter gifts.
One question; Some in my family are lactose intolerant & I haven’t yet come across lactose free milk powder (in UK), is it possible to make this recipe just using regular milk instead of powder, & adjusting the quantities as necessary?
Thanks,
Tamsin π
Hi Tamsin! You could try making your own version using lactose free milk. The reason I prefer to make my own sweetened condensed milk with milk powder is because it’s fool-proof, and no risk of scorched milk in the pan.
You’ll need:
I haven’t tried making this with lactose free milk. If this works out for you, please do stop by again and let me know how it turns out as I’m sure there are others wondering too.
I hope that helps? Thanks for stopping by.
Many thanks for your very informative reply.
Happy baking! π
Good morning Lisa,
I’ve popped back to give an update on using lactose free milk for this recipe.
I used long-life, semi-skimmed, lactose free milk from Aldi (when I can get to the shops, I’ll be trying the standard lactose free whole milk too).
It took roughly 1 1/2 hours to reduce the milk, on a very low heat; successfully not scorching or developing a skin. I occasionally gave a gentle stir with a whisk.
The final result has turned out beautifully. It smells & tastes wonderful!
My family will be receiving fudge & coconut ice Easter gifts this year π
Hi Tamsin, This is wonderful news that the lactose free sweetened condensed milk recipe worked out.
Itβs great that none of your family members or friends have to miss out on the fudge, yay! π
Thank you for coming back and updating me, much appreciated.
Have a sweet day. π
