But in the meantime, I’m sharing this ridiculously easy recipe for homemade sweetened condensed milk.
No, your eyes aren’t deceiving you. This recipe doesn’t amount to burnt milk in the bottom of your pan, and literally takes 5 minutes from start to finish. You can’t get much better than that, right?
Did I mention that this recipe also can be substituted for the canned variety? It yields the exact same amount as the cans too, and… you can even use it to make homemade dulce de leche too. More on that one later too. #suchatease
Shall we get started?
You will need:

You will need the following ingredients and tools.
- 115g (1 cup) milk powder,
- 150g (⅔ cup) granulated sugar,
- 42g (3 tbsp) melted butter,
- 125ml (½ cup) boiling water.
- Rubber spatula.
Start off by putting the milk powder into the blender.
Followed by the granulated sugar.
Next, add the melted butter.
Then finally add the boiling water.
Then blend to combine until smooth.
Depending on your blender, you may need to use a spatula to ensure that all the milk powder gets combined. I have tried this sweetened condensed milk recipe now on 3 separate occasions using 2 different blenders.
On some blender models, the milk powder can get stuck to the sides at the bottom, and the base. If this happens, [turn off and unplug the blender, obvs] then use a rubber spatula to scrape the sides to the bottom unclogging any milk powder. And blend again until there’s no milk powder remnants stuck, and the condensed milk is smooth.
And there you have it. Divine homemade sweetened condensed milk.
All you need to do now is pour your mixture into a jar or container, cover, and allow to cool to room temperature before storing in the refrigerator.
Wasn’t that easy? 🙂
The consistency and taste rivals store-bought cans, oh, and at a fraction of the price. I’ll never buy a can of sweetened condensed milk ever again!
However, please do take note that the homemade sweetened condensed milk will be thick when cold. This is not a problem, just remove from the fridge 30 minutes – 1 hour before use. Also, if you were to store store-bought sweetened condensed milk in the fridge, it would be thick too.

Homemade Sweetened Condensed Milk
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Yield: 1 can
With this no cook homemade sweetened condensed milk recipe, you’ll never need to buy cans of sweetened condensed milk ever again.
- 115g (1 cup) milk powder
- 150g (⅔ cup) granulated sugar
- 42g (3 tbsp) unsalted butter, melted
- 125ml (½ cup) boiling water
- Add the powdered milk into a blender, followed by the granulated sugar, melted butter and boiling water, and blend to combine until smooth – around 30 seconds – 1 minute. *see notes
- Pour into a container or jar, cover and allow to cool to room temperature before storing in the fridge until needed.
Use a rubber spatula after blending to ensure that no milk powder is stuck in the base and sides of the blender. Blend again if necessary.
