Foodie PenPals – July 2012
I’m so excited to share what I received in my Foodie PenPals package for July, 2012. I was matched with Rebecca who unfortunately, doesn’t have a blog. Rebecca is from Bath, England.

UK and European Foodie PenPals can sign up here,
US and Canada Foodie PenPals can sign up here.
If you’re interested in joining, the basics are that you get automatically matched to a person that you will be sending your package to. You need to contact that person asking some ‘probing’ questions. Wait until they get back to you with their answers and address. Then you get to go shopping for them (yay!) And spend items you think they’d like up to the value of Β£10/$15 excluding postage/shipping. Then send that to them to reach by the 25th of the month. During that time, you should receive an email from the person who will be sending your package and answer them and receive yours by the 25th too.
Enough of that, here’s my package *squeee!*
I was very impressed to see the size of the box, I guess I’ve been a lucky participant this month! π
Products laid bare. I’m one happy lady!
Vanilla bean, white Belgian chocolate and toasted coconut marshmallows.
Vanilla bean, white Belgian chocolate and toasted coconut marshmallow lollipop.
Heavenly fudge.
Orange extract with lemon thyme lollipop.
Caramel, pecan and vanilla bean marshmallows.
In total, I received the following:
- Book: A Taste of the Sun by Elizabeth David
- Pretty/colourful cupcake cases
- Valencian orange extract
- Goji berry mix: A mix of natural raisins, fruit juice infused cranberries, green raisins and dried goji berries
- Vanilla bean, white Belgian chocolate and toasted coconut marshmallows – received 3 in a bag and 1 on a lollipop stick
- An orange extract with lemon thyme inside, lollipop
- Lucky 7 chunks of what appears to be fudge
- Caramel, pecan and vanilla bean marshmallows.
Thank you so much, Rebecca. I loved my package. In fact, I loved it that much that all of the edibles (all marshmallows, fudge, and the lollipop) have been devoured! I started on the last night then the giant man-baby returned home and helped me finish them off.
They were uber delicious and I so can’t wait to get my hands on the recipes so I can replicate them. Hopefully I’ll get these recipes up on the blog soon. I know *I* want to make them but do you?
Pssst, want to see what I received last month? Check out this post.

Those marshmallows look TO DIE FOR. I would totally want to do this, but I’m an awful penpal. It’s a known fact. I get super excited for like, the first package/letter and then become a total slacker. However, with marshmallows like that for incentive, it’s pretty tempting!
OMG they were to die for. I can’t believe we ate them all in one night. I’ve been craving them ever since so hopefully I’ll get a chance to make some and share the recipe.
How I wish Asian pan-pals could take part in this foodie pen-pal event? Too bad there are rules on shipping edible items.. It would be super duper fun.. Have a good one and I definitely can’t wait to check out everyone who took part. Cheers, Jo
That’s such a huge shame, Joanna. Such a pity you can;t take part in sending edibles. I suppose it could still be fun sending and sharing recipes or books but I suppose recipes can be shared via email.
Great idea! Or maybe props? LOL.. that we can share with anyone.
Joanna, check in with Lindsay at The Lean Green Bean blog, I know she was looking into branching out so it’s worth asking her about an Asian FPP π
HI Carol! Thanks for the heads up. Will check with Lindsay. Appreciate the suggestion π
I just signed up for something like this called Bakin’ Friends and I’m so excited! I just might do this one, too =)
Ooo, the Bakin’ Friends sounds cool too. Hopefully one day someone will offer to look after UK members for this so I can join in too.
You got an awesome package, some really cool stuff in there π Those bars look sooo yummy
Thanks Kammie. π Which ones? The mallows or the fudge? Whichever way, they were literally all devoured in one night, mainly by me *blush* and the mallows were sizeable too!
So glad you liked them Lisa!
I really enjoyed putting all the bits n bobs together for you π
Not sure about the lollipop – it was a first attempt but will definitely have another go at them soon.
Enjoy making the marshmallows, look forward to seeing your creations!
Rebecca
I loved them all so much, Rebecca, thank you so very much. The lollipop was yummy and tasted orangey enough for me.
I’ve falled in love with both the mallow flavours you sent. In fact, ever since, I’ve been craving them like mad to a point of frustration. So thanks so much for providing the basic mallow recipe so I can attempt to re-create. I’m super excited now!
What a delicious package my friend, everything is so sweet π
Cheers

I’m so jealous!! Thats so freaking awesome β₯
This was a really great parcel, you were lucky indeed! I especially like the sound of the orange and thyme lollipop, thyme is delicious in sweet treats. Lovely stuff π
Your package looks amazing! The marshmallows and even fudge look good – not usually a fudge fan but amazing!
umm.. you have the best pen pal! Jealous of that whole package, its so pretty! Love those little cupcake wrappers π
